Accountant
Kleinschmidt has an opening for a full-time Accountant in our Pittsfield, Maine office.
The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:
- BS degree in Accounting with 5-10 years experience, or MBA with 3-8 years experience in positions of progressively increasing responsibility. CPA desirable.
- Specific accounting experience with project accounting, invoicing, accounts payable, budgets, payroll, as well as general ledger and records management.
- Advanced proficiency with MS Office Suite, accounting software, and a thorough understanding of database management tools.
- Good oral and written communication skills and strong mathematics ability.
- Able to handle multiple tasks in a deadline-driven, fast-paced team environment.
Additional requirements:

Mechanical Engineer
Kleinschmidt is seeking an entry or mid-level Mechanical Engineer in our Pittsfield or Falmouth, ME or Strasburg, PA offices.
The successful candidate will possess a B.S. or a B.E.T. from an accredited college or university in Mechanical Engineering and preferably have 1-5 years experience with or an interest in hydro engineering design projects which includes hydroelectric power generation systems and their support systems (energy modeling, turbine/generator selections, dewatering and sump pumps/piping, hydraulic fluid power systems design, power transmission lifting systems, HVAC, etc), as well as designing fish passage and trapping facilities (basic machine design including shafts, chain drives, torque limiting, etc). Knowledge of CAD drafting is preferable. Candidates should possess or qualify to take the EIT exam and/or be working toward professional registration. Candidates must also be willing to occasionally travel.

Civil/Design Engineer
Kleinschmidt is seeking a Civil/Design Engineer to fill an opening in our Pittsfield or Falmouth, Maine offices. We provide many different facets of civil land/site design in and adjacent to natural waterways including:
- Recreational facilities development – public beach frontage development and improvements, boat launches, nature trails, public bathhouses, etc.
- Commercial and industrial facilities site layout and design – access ways and parking systems, site drainage, site erosion control, etc.
- Natural habitat improvement projects – Fish habitat improvement, wetland restorations and development, bird nesting habitat installations, improvements needed to accommodate rare and threatened species along waterways, etc.
Qualified applicants will possess a BSCE, Professional Engineer registration, and at least 10 years of experience. Applicants must also possess experience or be familiar with local building codes, local, state and federal land use requirements, ADA regulations, stormwater analysis, basic steel, reinforced concrete, and timber design, use of Civil 3D, and will have excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Senior FERC Licensing Specialist/Project Manager
Kleinschmidt is seeking Senior FERC Licensing Specialist/Project Manager for our Grass Valley, CA office. Minimum requirements include a BS/MS with 6+ years of experience in FERC hydropower licensing and compliance regulations and processes. The successful candidate will possess the following skills and experience:
- Experience with water related resources, hydroelectric operations, and an in-depth knowledge of FERC and NEPA regulations and processes for hydroelectric and other energy projects.
- Proven ability to develop strategies for major issues with regulatory and resource relationships.
- Experience managing medium to large projects, budget preparation and tracking, and the ability to implement business development initiatives.
- Highly developed communication and presentation skills, including proposal preparation and interaction with clients and stakeholders (public, state and federal resource agencies, non-governmental organizations).

Licensing Coordinator
Kleinschmidt is seeking an immediate full-time Licensing Coordinator in our Pittsfield, ME and Liverpool, NY office.Qualifications:
- BA/BS, preferably in environmental science, biology, economics, English, regulatory policy, planning, or water resources

- Working knowledge of state and federal regulatory processes such as DEP and ACOE permitting processes and permit applications

Geotechnical Engineer
Kleinschmidt is seeking a Geotechnical Engineer to be located in our Lexington, SC or our Birmingham, AL office. This individual will serve as a designated client contact on technical issues and needs to demonstrate the ability to develop and maintain long term professional client relationships. Client and business development is a primary aspect of this position.
Other essential duties and responsibilities include:
- Ability to conduct dam safety inspections; perform dam stability evaluations; and, design dam safety-related modifications
- Develop and oversee subsurface investigations of new and existing water retaining structures
- Flexibility and ability to manage, mentor, collaborate and provide technical support to engineering teams located in other offices
- Ability to manage scope, schedule, budget and client relationships for medium to large projects
- Ability to prepare proposals and market geotechnical services
Minimum requirements:
- M.S. or Ph.D. in Geotechnical Engineering, with a minimum of 5+ years of experience in design and/or construction of water retaining structures

Civil/Structural Engineer
Kleinschmidt is seeking a Civil/Structural Engineer in our Pittsfield, ME office.
We are seeking a growth-oriented individual with a strong background in the fundamentals of structural and civil engineering. Minimum requirements include a BSCE and EIT, and a strong interest and demonstrated capability in structural, civil, and construction engineering. Must also have an interest in preparing and applying general structural design and construction to water resource projects such as fishway passages and river restorations. Senior Engineer/Project Manager
Kleinschmidt is seeking a Senior Engineer for our Liverpool, NY office with a minimum of ten years experience in the engineering, management, and construction of interdisciplinary hydroelectric and water resource projects.
The ideal candidate will have a current and broad level of expertise in applicable technical discipline(s) such as civil, hydraulic, structural, mechanical, or electrical engineering that will allow them to perform or direct engineering tasks for smaller projects related to their individual technical expertise. They would also have management skills to lead support staff on larger and multi-discipline projects. Professional Engineering registration and the ability to obtain registration in New York State is required.
This individual will serve as a designated client contact on both technical and/or contractual issues and needs to demonstrate the ability to develop and maintain long term professional client relationships. Client and business development is an important aspect of this position. Specific management related activities include developing and monitoring project scopes, budgets, and schedules through all project phases from initiation through final construction. Civil Engineer-Water Resources
Kleinschmidt is seeking a civil engineer, specializing in water resources, hydraulics and hydraulic control structures in our Strasburg, PA office. Qualified candidates will be growth-oriented individuals with a strong background in water resource engineering, river and stream management, and restoration. Candidates should also possess business development and management experience and be (or be able to be) registered as a Professional Engineer.
Candidates must have experience with specialized technical computer programs such as HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, DAMBRK, HEC-ResSim and EPA-SWMM, and must also be familiar with the regulatory permitting and zoning review process in PA. Proficiency with AutoCAD and GIS is a plus. In addition to excellent technical skills, candidates must have strong oral and written communication skills, be self-motivated, and able to work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
Minimum requirements include a BSCE with 5 to 10 years of experience in water resources engineering. A Master’s degree would be considered the equivalent of 3 years experience.
