Kinneytown Fish Passage Project
Kinneytown Hydroelectric Company
Seymour, CT

Kinneytown Fish Passage ProjectThe Kinneytown Hydroelectric Project is located on the Naugatuck River in Connecticut. The Kinneytown Hydro Company (a subsidiary of Consolidated Hydro, Inc.) selected Kleinschmidt to provide conceptual and final design services for upstream and downstream fish passage facilities to pass American shad and river herring. The upstream facility consists of a Denil type fish ladder with a viewing window for video monitoring. Downstream passage utilizes protective screens at the powerhouse intake to guide migrants to the bypass pipe. To prevent migrants from entering the bypass reach, two barrier dams were installed.

Kleinschmidt's responsibilities, in addition to design, included assistance in materials selection of the facilities to minimize overall project costs which included long term maintenance costs, and initial construction costs. Kleinschmidt also assisted in agency negotiations and provided assistance during construction.
