Kleinschmidt assisted Alabama Power Company in relicensing nine hydroelectric developments on the Coosa and Warrior Rivers in Alabama. The licenses expire in 2007 and total 1,171 MW of hydro generating capacity. The nine developments include the Coosa River Project encompassing the 87.75-MW Weiss Dam, 72.9-MW Henry Dam, 128.25-MW Logan Martin, 177-MW Lay Dam and 225-MW Bouldin Dam. Also located on the Coosa River are the Jordan Project, which includes the 100-MW Jordan Dam powerhouse, and the 170-MW Mitchell Project. The Warrior River Project includes the 157.5-MW Smith Dam and 45.125 MW Bankhead powerhouse.
Kleinschmidt assisted Alabama Power Company to develop an overall relicensing strategy and plan, detailed project schedule, communications protocol, and related administrative functions. Kleinschmidt also assisted with stakeholder education and outreach, and developing resource teams to work with Alabama Power Company to resolve issues on the Coosa and Warrior Rivers, and preparing the draft and final license applications.
