Gary L. Liimatainen is Vice President of Hydro Resources at Kleinschmidt. Mr. Liimatainen also serves as a Senior Project Manager and Senior Regulatory Specialist with Kleinschmidt, assisting hydro owners successfully untangle the complex issues associated with FERC licensing. He received a B.A. degree in Political Science/History from the University of Maine at Orono in 1982.
Since earning his degree, Mr. Liimatainen continued pursuing college level courses in business and personnel management at the University of Maine at Orono. He has also completed the "Problem Analysis and Negotiating Solutions Using IFIM" course sponsored by the National Ecology Research Center.
Mr. Liimatainen's responsibilities at Kleinschmidt involve the management of in-house staff and specialty consultants and agency consultation/negotiation required in the preparation of FERC license applications and FERC compliance issues. He specializes in agency consultation and negotiations, including the balancing of conflicting resource demands. For environmental resource issues, he has focused primarily on managing recreation, land use, water quality, fisheries, economic, and archaeological studies. Mr. Liimatainen is well versed in NEPA and FERC licensing regulations including requirements governing the development of Applicant Prepared Environmental Assessments.
Mr. Liimatainen is a member of the National Hydropower Association and American Water Resource Association.
