Mr. Maher is a Senior Manager for Kleinschmidt. He received his M.A. in Biology from the University of South Dakota and has taken additional graduate courses at the University of Montana and several Universities in Nebraska. More recently, Mr. Maher has completed continuing education in Executive Management, Cultural Resources, project facilitation and public presentation.
Mr. Maher has over 17 years of experience working with hydropower licensing and compliance. He has direct recent experience managing ILP and traditional licensings, environmental analyses, shoreline management and other FERC compliance plans, as well as assisting clients with hydroelectric project development and environmental issues related to projects. Before joining Kleinschmidt, Mr. Maher was the Environmental Resources Manager for the Central Nebraska Public Power and Irrigation District's 104 MW Platte River Project. While with Central, he was responsible for regulatory, land management and environmental compliance activities as well as for all aspects of negotiating and settling a contentious relicensing and then designing and implementing numerous management plans in consultation with various state and federal agencies.
In addition to his experience working with representatives of local, state and federal agencies and tribes, Mr. Maher has extensive experience working with public stakeholders. He has moderated and facilitated large and small public meetings on a wide range of resource management issues. Mr. Maher has made invited presentations to the EPA, Bureau of Reclamation, US Fish and Wildlife Service, a number of national symposia and conferences, several universities, and numerous civic and professional organizations on topics ranging from endangered species to the social and political effects of water and land management strategies.
